The Calgary Foundation is a "360 Degree Grantmaker".  We support charities in all parts of the nonprofit sector: Arts & Heritage, Community Development, Education, Environment, Health, Human Services and Recreation.

Grants fall into two broad categories:

  • Designated and Donor Advised - With few exceptions, organizations cannot apply.
  • Unrestricted - Registered charitable organizations can apply.

Semi-annual intake February and September, to support initiatives that respond to emerging community issues and evolving priorities

Continuous intake, to support resident-led projects that help create and strengthen the ordinary bonds of neighbourliness

Continuous intake, limited in number and size, to support organizations to take advantage of unique opportunities to advance their work

Continuous intake, moderate amounts for initiatives that support organizations in times of change toward sustaining the long term impact of their work.

e.g. strategic transition or transformation planning, Board development and renewal, senior leadership change, facilitation to explore collaborations and mergers

Continuous intake, to encourage active citizenship by helping residents undertake small creative projects -neighbourly first steps - that benefit their local community


With only a few exceptions, charities cannot apply for these grants

    Student Awards

Foundation initiated grants and services to support innovative approaches or responses to current or future community needs, often acting as a catalyst to bring organizations and individuals together to collectively meet a need

Distributed annually, typically in perpetuity, to designated charities based on the guidelines outlined when the Fund is established

Distributed annually, based on the Fund representative's recommendations to The Calgary Foundation

• Annual Grants from permanently endowed Funds that are established to support a specific charitable organization
• Managed Funds that are owned by a charity and managed by The Calgary Foundation

 

Bursaries and scholarships encourage and support students at all educational levels, recognize excellence, and inspire community leadership and citizenship. Deadlines and criteria vary, please consult student awards web-page.
